Prof. Abdul Latif Ahmad
University of Science Malaysia, Malaysia

Prof. Ir. Dr. Abdul Latif has served as the Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering (2005-2010), Research Dean (2010-2012), Director of Nexus Engineering (2017-2019) and Board of Governance (2022-2023) at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Virtually, he is the Head for Membrane Science and Technology Cluster at USM. He obtained his BEng, MSc and PhD from the University of Wale, Swansea, UK. Being a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow to The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) UK, he is frequently being appointed by IChemE to accredit Chemical Engineering Program in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia. He also has served as an evaluator for numerous national and international research grants. He is an internationally renowned and acclaimed award-winning researcher in membrane science and technology. His enthusiasm and dedication towards his research works have been reflected in his achievements in winning numerous scientific invention awards, including Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (2006), 20th Khwarizmi International Award by the Iranian Ministry of Science and Technology (2007), Novel Engineering Solution (NES) Award by the IChemE UK (2008), TWAS Prize in Engineering Sciences, Italy (2012), Rotary Research Gold Medal Award by the Rotary Club Kuala Lumpur (2012) and Merdeka Award by the Government of Malaysia (2014). To-date, a total of 60 personal achievement awards and 69 research product awards have been won. His active participation in scientific research has also been exhibited by being the recipient of multiple research grants in various disciplines sponsored by government and nongovernment bodies, with a cumulative value of more than RM 35 million. His capability in carrying out quality research work of international standard has been further supported by publication of almost 553 articles in indexed refereed journals. With current cumulative citation number of 25,995 and H-index of 75, he is one of the World’s Most Influential Scientific Mind and Highly Cited Researcher in 6 years in a row (2017-2022), a recognition given by Clarivate Analytics. As tenacious educator, he has successfully graduated 58 PhD and 84 MSc students and currently on-going 13 PhD and 1 MSc.



Prof. Irene Man Chi Lo

Speech Title: Transforming Wastewater into Green Hydrogen using Negative Carbon Emission PEC Technology

Irene Lo is currently a Chair Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. She is an Elected Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and Elected Fellow of Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences. She is also a Fellow of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers. She was appointed by HKSAR Government as Justices of the Peace (JP) in 2017. She was Adjunct Professor of Tongji University, Tianjin University, Jilin University and Harbin Institute of Technology in China. She was also Visiting Professor of Technical University of Denmark and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Prof. Lo is an internationally renowned scholar and is among the first to invent iron-based nanomaterials and photocatalytic materials for the removal of heavy metals, organics, and emerging pollutants such as antibiotics from water and subsurface environment as well as to investigate the fundamental understanding of the pollutant removal mechanisms. Her research is ground-breaking and innovative, sustainable, and the outcome application is economical. She was the recipient of numerous prestigious international research awards, such as 2007 ASCE Samuel Arnold Greeley Award, 2009 ASCE Wesley W Horner Award, and the 2012 ASCE EWRI Best Practice-Oriented Paper Award. In addition, she received the 2019 Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards in the Natural Science / Technology Advancement by Ministry of Education, China and the 2024 First Runner-up from the International contest of Net-zero Technology. She has been invited to give over 100 plenary / keynote / invited speeches at many international and regional conferences in Asia, Europe, Africa, and North America.
Her research interests include advanced oxidation processes and nanoparticles / nanotechnology for environmental applications. Her citation is ~21700 with H-index 80, as reported by Google Scholar. She was recognized as "Top 2% Scientists in the World” by Stanford university every year since 2019.



Prof. Helmut Kroiss
Vienna University of Technology, Austria

Helmut Kroiss received his doctoral degree in 1977 from the TU Wien. From 1987 to 2012 he served as full professor at the Institute for Water Quality, Resource and Waste management at TU Wien, from 1994-1998 as dean of the faculty of Civil Engineering and from 2004 to 2010 as vice chair of the senate. He was member of the Board of Directors of International Water Association (IWA) for many years, chair of the IWA publishing committee until September 2014, and since 2008, he is a IWA Distinguished Fellow. He served as president of the IWA for the period 2014 to 2016. His research field on municipal and industrial waste water treatment focused on biological process development from lab scale to full scale plant design and operation. His research on river basin management focused on the role of point and diffused nutrient sources on surface and ground waters. Teaching focused on basic and advanced education in Water Quality Management and doctoral programs. Another key aspect was the enhancement of continuous flow of knowledge and experience from reserach to full scale operation (professional training) together with the Austrian Water and Waste Association.

Dr. Nivin Abdelmeguid
Cairo University, Egypt

Speech Title: Transforming the Water–Energy–Climate Nexus in Emerging Economies: Toward Integrated and Resilient Transitions.

Dr. Nivin Abdelmeguid is a multidisciplinary scholar and practitioner with expertise in sustainable development, energy transition, climate change, and environmental governance. She holds a PhD in Euro-Mediterranean Studies, with a focus on environmental and energy economics, and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University. In addition to her academic role, she works as a climate change and environmental consultant for local and international institutions, including the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Egypt), and International Finance Corporation (IFC) under the World Bank Group. She served as a Lead Author for Egypt’s 2024 Biennial Transparency Report (1BTR) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), contributing key chapters on national circumstances, institutional arrangements, and the tracking of progress toward nationally determined contributions, particularly in the energy sector, under Article 4 of the Paris Agreement. She continues to serve as a National Transparency Expert for Egypt’s forthcoming 2026 Biennial Transparency Report (2BTR). In addition, she advises on environmental compliance, adaptation, and mitigation strategies across academic, governmental, and international platforms. Her research centers on decarbonization, energy transition, climate finance, environmental justice, and the intersection of gender, governance, and regional inequality. Her work has been recognized for its policy relevance and impact; notably, her study “The New Proposed Energy Subsidy Reform in Egypt: Impact and Recommendations for Implementation” received the Best Policy Paper Award from the Economic Research Forum in 2015. She also contributes to scholarly publications, with a forthcoming chapter titled “Energy Storage Solutions for a Sustainable Global Economy” to appear in the edited volume “The Future of the Energy Sector: Innovations for Economic Growth and Sustainability,” published by Nova Science Publishers.
Dr. Abdelmeguid also serves on the editorial boards of several international journals and has reviewed numerous articles for leading journals in her field, including Energies MDPI, Clean Energy Science and Technology, Research on World Agricultural Economy, Clean Energy Technologies, and Climate Policy and Green Economy Journal. Deeply committed to mentoring emerging scholars, she volunteers with ScholarsColab, a global initiative that connects early-career researchers with expert mentors to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and actively contributes to energy transition and climate resilience initiatives across diverse international platforms and communities.
